Cicada Killer Wasps in Griswald, CT

We have at least 20 cicada killers hovering over our lawn by the flowers. We live in a sandy area near tall trees by a river. We do not see any cicadas being carried yet. We have found three holes as of today July 28. yesterday one decided to guard my cucumber vines and stays on or over a certain leaf of the cucumber vine.

Hello Heidi,

Thanks for submitting these cool photos. This is a male Eastern Cicada Killer Wasp. What you describe is typical male behavior where they stake out little territories and chase all other cicada killer males and other insects out. You should be seeing a lot more Cicada Killer Female burrows now.

Please report back and keep us updated regarding more burrows :)
