Cicada Killers in Andover, Ma.

Been seeing many holes in my yard with a lot of sand for quite a few weeks and just been covering them up.. Never say anything around the area until today.

I believe it's a Cicada Killers and actually had a victim with it.. didn't do research on it until after I killed it but maybe shouldn't have.. With 2 yr old I didn't want to take the chance though

Hello,

Thanks for the images. Yes the photos do show a female cicada killer wasp with a Tibicen cicada. Covering up the holes which are actually entrances to the cicada killer's underground chamber system is pointless. The female cicada killer is quite industrious and will only re-open the entrance.

I wouldn't worry too much about your two year old. Cicada Killer wasps are non-aggressive.

Unfortunately though, now that you have them, the progeny of year's wasps will remain on your property year after year.
