Saw killer land and start digging..still digging 4 hours later. Also saw one flying w/cicada at Little Creek NAB in Virgina at back entrance to Drexlers Hall (Bach. Officer's Quarters) last week..was evening and very hot 90

Thanks for the photo. That does look like a female Cicada Killer digging her burrow. She will dig and dig and dig until she gets it right.

Once she is done you should pull up a chair and watch the antics that will take place. She will do a series of fly-byes around her burrow and orient herself to it by making several low passes, flying off then flying back.

When she feels she knows where her burrow is in relation to her surroundings, she will fly off and grab a cicada.

If you're patient enough, you can watch this happen.
