Brood XIV Straggler from Marston Mills, Ma.

Found on hydrangea bush in Marstons Mills, about 8:00 at night on a clear afternoon. Unfortunately the photo quality on my cell phone isn't the best.

Hi Samantha,

Thanks for the excellent photo. We have been getting lots of straggling reports from on Cape Cod. This specimen from Brood XIV. The 17 year periodical cicadas that emerged in massive numbers in 2008. It seems that this guy has got the time mixed up making him 21 years old!

Periodical cicadas seem to straggle several years early or several years late. But it always seems to be 1, 2 or 4 year intervals. Thanks for being the first for sharing and confirming the straggling.
