Hi Amy,

Thanks for submitting your sighting. The cicada in the jar is known as Tibicen lyricen one of our two most common species here in New England.

Your story reminds me of my first cicada encounter as a boy. I found my first cicada, fully formed under a rock. The wings in your specimen look a little damaged, I wonder if it emerged as a nymph in your garage somewhere.
