There are 6 exoskeletons around it, they are split up the back. I found a couple of the dead ones earlier this week in a different area of my yard. This is the first live one I have seen.

Thank you very much for the nice macro photo of a Tibicen canicularis hiding out in a pine tree which seems to be their favorite tree that they use as a host plant.
