Wow! What an amazing series of photos of a Chinese Mantid (Tenodera aridifolia) preying on a cicada. There is just enough "uneaten" cicada for us to identify it as a Tibicen tibicen (formerly Tibicen chloromerus) cicada. We have an actual video of a Preying Mantis overcoming and eating a cicada from Ohio. Looks like a very pregnant female Chinese mantid. This species need large amounts of food in order to produce offspring...that food often includes cicadas.
