Saw this on my deck and I looked it up definately a cicada but I do not know what kind.

Hi Denise,

Thanks for sharing your photo with us. It did come out a little blurry but I can still make out that this is a Tibicen canicularis - the Northern Dog Day Cicada - these are very common here in New England and are distributed over a wide area. I can tell that this specimen is female. Thanks very much for adding Salem, NH to our distribution database.
